A lot of product management is mitigating risk. We estimate revenues and costs, prioritize features and stories, and try to articulate a message that resonates with buyers—all in the hope of making the best choices for our organization.
We do what we can to prevent failure. And that's good.
But as Art says, preventing failure isn't the same as striving for success.
The next time you're planning, think bigger. Think about what would make your product insanely great. Not ten percent better but ten times better. Don't settle for "it's the best we could do" but strive for "it's the best!"
